HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAM MANUAL
According to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code of Alberta, it’s the employer’s responsibility to implement an occupational health and safety (OHS) program to prevent employee workplace injury and disease. This ensures that the employer is exercising due diligence in taking steps to meet with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code of Alberta.
Employers with 20 or more workers must have a formal health and safety program that is developed in consultation with the joint work site health and safety committee or representative. Employers with fewer than 20 workers are not required to have a program, but must have documentation in place that meets the requirements established by the OHS legislation. This includes assessment and control of workplace hazards and an emergency response plan. The employer must consult with the health and safety representative.
